Counting differently
D&B counts people as contacts (522M) and keeps dissolved companies in the file. We count companies, and only ones that are registered today. Both are fair; they are not the same number.
Where the gap is real
Credit scores, trade payment data and the D-U-N-S number are D&B products we do not sell. Minority shareholdings are in D&B's tree and not in ours.
Our column: counted live in our own file, 6 October 2026, refreshed monthly. D&B column: 10-K FY2024 (sec.gov), dnb.com, D&B Hoovers brochure, Equifax Hoovers brochure; D&B publishes no fill rates per field.
† Counted in our own file on 2 October 2026; not yet part of the monthly refresh.
What's the difference between CompanyData.com and Dun & Bradstreet?
Dun & Bradstreet and CompanyData.com both hold data on hundreds of millions of companies, from the same official registers. In most Western countries the records are on par. The difference is what you pay and what you get.
D&B sells a finished product. A D-U-N-S number, a credit report, a compliance screen, a Hoovers login. It has worked that way since 1841, and if you need exactly that product, it works. The price is an enterprise contract, a credit system, and terms that keep the data inside your own company.
We sell the data itself, from €34 a month. You pick the countries and the fields. We deliver a CSV file, an API response, or an enriched version of your own customer list. Resell it, embed it, load it into your CRM. Prices are on the website.
Where we are better: price, websites, mobile numbers of small-business owners, and the freedom to do what you want with the file. Where D&B is better: financial reports inside a compliance workflow, named contacts at large companies, and the D-U-N-S number itself.
D&B decides what the report looks like. With us, you do.

Which one wins for your use case
Compliance (KYB, AML, sanctions)
Winner: Dun & BradstreetD&B Risk Analytics gives you screening workflows, PEP and sanctions lists and a risk engine out of the box. We give you registry data, UBO at 50%+ and VAT numbers to build your own check. If you want the finished workflow, buy D&B.
Financial reports and credit
Winner: Dun & BradstreetD&B holds filed financials, credit scores and about 200 million trade payment experiences, and serves them inside its credit and compliance modules. We hold filed P&L and balance sheets too, for the largest markets and back to 2005, but only as bulk CSV files, and we have no credit score. If you want the financials inside a workflow, D&B. If you want the statements in your own warehouse at a fraction of the price, us.
Customer onboarding
Winner: CompanyData.comOne API, one schema, every country. Look up a registration number or a company name and get the record in your form in real time. From €34 a month, key issued on signup.
CRM enrichment
Winner: CompanyData.comSend us your file and we match it against 374 million active registrations, or enrich record by record through the API. You choose the fields. We hold the highest coverage of registration numbers, VAT numbers and websites tied to a registry record, which is what makes the matching work.
Sales and marketing
Winner: DependsSelling to enterprise accounts? D&B has more named contacts at director level. Selling to small and medium-sized businesses? We hold 51 million mobile numbers of SME owners and 29 million business emails, screened against do-not-call lists in 15 countries.
Custom datasets and resale
Winner: CompanyData.comD&B sells one standard product for internal use. We build the file you ask for and let you resell or embed it. Pick countries, fields, size bands; get a fixed quote within 24 hours.
Where Dun & Bradstreet is better
Breadth of history. D&B keeps records of companies that no longer exist and draws on more sources outside Europe and North America. If you need to trace a dissolved entity, D&B has it and we do not.
Financials and risk. Credit scores, payment behaviour, financial strength ratings. We do not sell these. Our filed P&L and balance sheets cover the largest markets, but D&B's financial coverage is deeper and comes with the scoring on top.
Compliance modules. D&B's financials, ownership and screening lists sit inside D&B Risk Analytics and D&B Onboard, ready to use. We deliver the same kind of data as files and an API; the workflow is yours to build.
The D-U-N-S number. If a bank, government or enterprise procurement team asks for one, only D&B issues it.
Where CompanyData.com is better
Price. From €34 a month, custom files from €386, prices on the website. D&B publishes one price, Hoovers Essentials at $49 a month; its API, data licences and enterprise plans are quoted, and public benchmarks put the typical enterprise contract at $41,069 a year.
Websites tied to registry records. 45 million URLs, each connected to a registered company, not scraped from the web. Higher coverage than D&B publishes.
Mobile numbers of small-business owners. 51 million, screened against do-not-call lists in 15 countries. D&B's direct dials sit mostly at larger companies.
Registration and VAT numbers. 329 million registration numbers, the highest coverage in the market. Matching starts here.
Every record is a live registration. We cover entities that are actively registered at an official registry and remove them when they deregister. Fewer records than D&B, but no dead ones. Statutory name, trading name and brand names on one record; SIC on all 374 million and NACE on 343 million, worldwide.
Group structure
Corporate family trees: where they come from, and who offers them today
1963
The D-U-N-S Number
Dun & Bradstreet introduced a nine-digit number for every business entity. It became the global standard for telling one company apart from another.
Corporate linkage
The first global family tree
By linking D-U-N-S Numbers as parent and child, D&B was the first to map ownership between parents and subsidiaries worldwide, and to sell it for risk, supply chain and master data work.
Today
A handful of providers
S&P Global, LexisNexis, Bureau van Dijk and CompanyData.com offer group data too. D&B remains the historic foundation of the field.
The same structure, built from public sources
CompanyData.com is one of the few providers with a comparable corporate structure. We build it from official trade registers and global sources such as GLEIF's Level 2 "who owns whom" data.
We keep the hierarchy everyone already works with: global ultimate, domestic ultimate, local parent and subsidiary. 41.8 million companies carry a group link.
To be fair: we link subsidiaries at 50%+ ownership. D&B's linkage data also includes minority shareholdings.
- Global ultimate
Global Headquarter IDThe top of the tree: the company that owns the group worldwide.
- Domestic ultimate
National Headquarter IDThe highest group company within one country.
- Local parent
Local Headquarter IDThe direct parent: the company that owns 50%+ of this one.
- Subsidiary
Subsidiary CodeA company owned 50%+ by its parent, linked upward to every level above.

Switching from Dun & Bradstreet
If you have loaded a D&B file before, our files will look familiar: most fields line up with a D&B equivalent, and public standards such as US SIC 1987 work the same way. What changes is the key.
Send us 1,000 rows of your current file. We match them on name, address and registration number and send back the enriched rows, with the match rate and the fill rate per column for your countries. Free, within 24 hours.
Load it the way you load company data today. Company name and trade name, address, legal form, registration number, founding year, six SIC codes, employees and revenue with their reliability indicators, import/export code, headquarter and group links, CEO name and title. Standard code sets, so most filters and segments keep working.
Re-key once. Your D-U-N-S Number becomes our ID, and parent and ultimate-parent links become our headquarter IDs. Records are re-matched once on name, address and registration number. After that your downstream rules keep running.
How fields line up
| D&B field | CompanyData field | Note |
|---|---|---|
| D-U-N-S Number | ID | Our own ID replaces it |
| Parent and ultimate-parent links | Local, National, Global Headquarter ID | Our IDs; subsidiaries at 50%+ |
| Business name / trade style | Company Name / Trade Name | Same field |
| Registration number | Company Registration Number | Same field |
| Legal form | Business Legal Type | Same field |
| Year started | Founding Year | Similar: D&B counts the year of control, we count founding |
| SIC codes | Business Category Code 1 to 6 | Same public standard: 4-digit US SIC 1987 |
| Employees | Employees Total / On Site | Same field, with a reliability indicator |
| Annual sales | Yearly Revenue + Currency Code | Same field, with a reliability indicator |
| CEO name and title | CEO Name / Title | Same field |
What does not carry over
The D-U-N-S Number itself. Only D&B issues it. If a bank, a government body or a procurement portal asks you for one, stay with D&B.
Credit scores, payment behaviour and trade payment data. We do not offer these; if you need them, you keep buying them from D&B.
Fill rates differ per column and per country. The free sample in step 1 shows them for your countries before you decide.
Most teams end up running both for a while: D&B for what it does best, us for enrichment, onboarding and lists. That is fine with us.
