North America is three very different data markets under one geography. The USA has no federal company register and a massive commercial-data industry filling the gap, Canada publishes provincial registries with varying openness, and Mexico has no public company register at all. A provider that is dominant in the US may have thin coverage south of the border.
This guide covers {count} providers that work across North American markets. For the full picture in each country, see our dedicated guides for the USA, Canada and Mexico (linked below). Here we focus on who solves the cross-border problem.
We sell North American business data ourselves, so our pitch sits in a marked box.

1. Dun & Bradstreet: the cross-border standard
The only provider with deep, native coverage in the US, Canada and Mexico under one identifier.
Dun & Bradstreet is the one provider with genuinely deep, native coverage across all three North American markets. In the US it is the business-credit standard, in Canada it covers federal and provincial records, and in Mexico its partner CIAL D&B provides the only serious structured business-information file. The D-U-N-S number ties entities across borders, making it the default for compliance and supply-chain work that spans North America.
Short Hills, NJ · Enterprise pricing · Built on: US state filings, Canadian registries, CIAL D&B Mexico
✓ Why it stands out
- Native coverage in all three markets
- D-U-N-S cross-border linkage
- The standard for compliance and supply-chain risk
⚠ Watch out for
- Enterprise pricing
- Not a contact-data or prospecting tool
- Mexican depth via CIAL D&B is thinner than US
2. CompanyData
Full disclosure: where CompanyData fits in North America
We publish this guide and we sell North American business data. Our file covers the US, Canada and Mexico in one schema with one API, including entity records, contact data and corporate linkage. We are strongest on entity coverage and contact data, not on credit reports or compliance screening.
For credit work, use D&B, Equifax or Experian. For US contact data, ZoomInfo is hard to beat. For reach across all three North American markets in one format, plus every other market in the world, come to us.

See our North American business data3. ZoomInfo: the US contact giant
Dominant in US contact data but noticeably thinner in Canada and thin in Mexico.
ZoomInfo is the largest US contact-data platform, with deep phone, email and intent data for American businesses. Canadian coverage exists but is noticeably thinner, and Mexican coverage is minimal. For US-focused sales and marketing teams, ZoomInfo is the default. For cross-border North American work, it solves one country well and leaves the other two to partners.
Waltham, MA · Enterprise pricing · Built on: Web scraping, Community-contributed data, Own research
✓ Why it stands out
- The largest US contact database
- Intent data and CRM integrations
- Strong in enterprise sales workflows
⚠ Watch out for
- Canadian coverage is thinner
- Mexican coverage is minimal
- Enterprise pricing, annual commitment
4. Equifax Business: the US-Canada credit bureau
Strong business-credit coverage in the US and Canada, not a player in Mexico.
Equifax covers business credit in the US and Canada natively, with commercial credit reports, scores, monitoring and fraud prevention. For lenders, insurers and procurement teams that operate across the US-Canada border, Equifax provides a single bureau relationship. Mexico is not part of its direct coverage, so cross-border work involving all three markets still needs D&B or a separate Mexican source.
Atlanta, GA · Quote only · Built on: Trade credit data, Public filings, Financial data
✓ Why it stands out
- Native US and Canadian business credit
- Commercial credit reports and monitoring
- Fraud prevention and compliance tools
⚠ Watch out for
- No direct Mexican coverage

5. Experian Business: the other US-Canada bureau
Business credit in the US and Canada, with a presence in Mexico through the consumer bureau.
Experian offers business credit reports, scores and monitoring in the US and Canada, and has a consumer-credit presence in Mexico that gives it some local infrastructure. For business credit across the US-Canada corridor, Experian is the natural alternative to Equifax. Its pay-per-report options also make it more accessible for smaller companies than the enterprise-only providers.

Three markets, three data realities
Each North American market developed its business-data infrastructure independently:
Structural · No US federal register
The United States has no single company register. Each state runs its own, from Delaware's Division of Corporations to California's Secretary of State, which is why commercial aggregators dominate.
Structural · Canada: provincial registers
Canada's company registration is split between federal (Corporations Canada) and provincial registries, each with different access and pricing.
Structural · Mexico: no public register
Mexico has no freely searchable company register. DENUE provides a free directory of economic units, but the full corporate record is not openly accessible.
Ongoing · US providers dominate
The size of the US market means most North American data providers are US-headquartered and US-focused, with Canadian and Mexican coverage as secondary.
The North American data landscape
US-headquartered providers dominate, with D&B the only one truly covering all three markets:
North American players
- ZoomInfo (US)
- Equifax (US)
- Data Axle (US)
Global players covering North America
- Dun & Bradstreet (D&B, US (plus CIAL for Mexico))
- Experian (Experian, UK/US)
- Creditsafe (Creditsafe Group)
Why cross-border data is harder than it looks
The US, Canada and Mexico share a continent and trade agreements but not a data infrastructure. The US has 50+ state registries, Canada has federal and provincial registries, and Mexico has no public company register. Entity identifiers differ (EIN in the US, BN in Canada, RFC in Mexico), and no single identifier ties them together except D-U-N-S.
For teams doing business across the US-Canada border, the bureaus (Equifax, Experian) provide a natural two-country solution. For all three markets, D&B's partnership with CIAL in Mexico is the only serious structured option. Contact-data platforms like ZoomInfo are deep in the US but thin elsewhere. Here are the official starting points:
- SEC EDGAR : US public-company filings, the starting point for SEC-registered entities.
- Corporations Canada : The federal Canadian business registry, covering federally incorporated companies.
- DENUE (Mexico) : Mexico's free directory of economic units, run by INEGI, the statistical agency.
Three questions for North American data
1. Which countries do you actually need? If you only need the US, the choice is wide (ZoomInfo, D&B, Apollo, Data Axle and more). If you need Canada too, the bureaus cover both. If you need Mexico, D&B via CIAL or a platform like ours are the realistic options.
2. Credit, contacts, or entity records? For credit: D&B, Equifax, Experian. For US contacts: ZoomInfo, Apollo. For entity records across all three: a business-data platform like ours. These are different tools for different jobs.
3. Do you need a single identifier across borders? If you need to link a US parent to a Canadian subsidiary and a Mexican affiliate, D-U-N-S is the only widely accepted cross-border identifier. Our own data links via corporate hierarchy, but for regulated compliance work, D-U-N-S is the standard.
