The stakes

Sustainability reporting has moved from the brochure to the law. CSRD asks companies to report on their value chain. Due diligence rules like CSDDD, Germany's LkSG, Norway's Transparency Act and the EU deforestation regulation ask them to know their suppliers and the risks those suppliers carry. Auditors check the answers.

All of that rests on a step nobody puts in the annual report: knowing who the suppliers actually are. A typical supplier list in an ERP system is a mess. "Acme BV", "ACME Holding", "Acme B.V. (old)", three addresses, no registration number. You cannot assess the human-rights risk of a supplier you cannot identify.

The mandate

Position Green builds ESG reporting and supply-chain due diligence software for more than 750 customers, from CSRD and EU Taxonomy reporting to carbon accounting and supplier risk. With the acquisition of Factlines in 2025, it added supply-chain transparency across thousands of suppliers to the platform.

For that work, every supplier on a customer's list has to resolve to one real legal entity. With a registry identifier. With its current status, so a dissolved supplier does not sit in the report. With its country and its activity code, because sector and country drive the risk score.

What we supply

The identity layer. Through our company data API, Position Green matches supplier records against 374 million companies from official registers in 200+ countries. Each match returns the legal name, registration number, legal form, status, registered address and NACE activity code.

A misspelled supplier name with an outdated address comes back as one confirmed legal entity. A supplier that no longer exists comes back as dissolved. A supplier in a high-risk sector is flagged by its official activity code, not by a guess from its name.

What changed

Position Green's customers start their due diligence from a clean, verified supplier base instead of a spreadsheet of names. Risk scores rest on registry facts. When the auditor asks how a supplier was identified, the answer is the official register.

Why it matters

You cannot report on a value chain you cannot name. We make every supplier nameable. For full supplier universes in bulk, see our company database.
