Energy Companies and Suppliers in the UK

Last updated

UK energy is structured by Ofgem into retail suppliers and network operators, with generators sitting behind both. The retail market was long defined by the Big Six (British Gas, EDF Energy, E.ON, RWE npower, ScottishPower and SSE); since OVO acquired SSE Retail in 2020 it is effectively the Big Five, with Octopus Energy now Britain's largest supplier. Behind them are generators like Drax Group, Centrica, ENGIE and ContourGlobal, renewable specialists including SSE Renewables, RWE and Ørsted UK, the six Distribution Network Operators such as UK Power Networks and Northern Powergrid, and National Grid. This page lists all 43,307 active UK energy companies and suppliers registered with Companies House across 186 regions, covering retail, generation, networks and the wider supply chain. Filter to suppliers, renewables, generators or networks by region, employee size and revenue, then export to Excel or build an email or mailing list for B2B procurement, partnerships and recruitment outreach.
