The basics
What is the Bolagsverket API?
Bolagsverket runs Sweden's business register and exposes it through two products. The free EU high-value-dataset API allows 60 queries a minute. The paid company-information API allows 20 calls a second and returns 15 information sets, including the SNI code, legal form, address and the REKLAMSPARR marketing opt-out. Both authenticate with OAuth 2.0.
The gaps are consistent across both. There is no phone, no email, no website and no employee count anywhere in the register, and financials arrive only as ZIP documents, only for digitally filed annual reports, which are not mandatory, so coverage is partial. The paid tier also carries a SEK 5,000 setup fee and a contract signed on paper and posted. Register and choose a product
Apply through bolagsverket.se. The free HVD API you can start with quickly, but the paid company-information contract is signed on paper and posted, so build the lead time in.

Authenticate with OAuth 2.0
Both products use OAuth 2.0. Beneficial-owner data is the exception: it needs an mTLS client certificate, a different auth mechanism inside the same API.

Mind the transaction model
Paid transactions are bought in monthly bundles and do not roll over, so unused calls are lost at month end. Size the bundle to your steady load, not your peak.
Honest take: if you need Swedish identity and legal form and can live without contacts, the free HVD API is a fair start. If you need phone, email, website, employee data, structured financials or coverage beyond Sweden without a paper contract, that is where we come in.

There is no instant upgrade. The company-information contract is signed on paper and mailed, on top of a SEK 5,000 setup fee, so plan the timeline in from the start.

Organisationsnummer has its own rules
It is 10 digits with a Luhn check, and the third digit is 2 or higher, which is what distinguishes it from a personnummer. Sole traders have no organisation number at all and are keyed on the owner's personnummer.

Beneficial owners need mTLS
Owner data is not covered by the normal OAuth flow. It requires an mTLS client certificate, so you set up a second auth mechanism just for that one dataset.

Financials are partial, and documents not figures
You get financials only for digitally filed annual reports, which are not mandatory, and only as ZIP documents. You parse them yourself, and many businesses are missing entirely.

Branches and the closed e-service catch people out
Filialer have no SCB legal form, so cross-source joins produce nulls. And the Näringslivsregistret e-service closed on 30 September 2025, replaced by Sök företagsinformation, so older links and tutorials break.
