Company Data API: search and enrich business data
Real-time company information from official trade registers, delivered as one API. Look up, verify and enrich business data inside your own application: onboarding, compliance and CRM, one schema, every market.
What is a company data API?
A company data API is an interface that returns structured information about a business, on request, in JSON. Instead of looking a business up by hand or buying a static file, your software asks for a record and gets back the registered name, address, registration number, industry code, size, directors and ownership.
The CompanyData API covers 374M+ businesses in 190+ countries, sourced from official trade registers rather than inferred from websites. Some call it a companies API, some a company information API; it is one business data API, with the same schema in every market.
One B2B data API, three jobs
Try the company data API right now
A live company lookup on the production API: search any registered business by name, open the record, and see the company data the register holds. Two endpoints do it - /api/company/search finds it, /api/company/export returns every field. No key needed for the sample.
- Company lookup by name or registration number, in 190+ countries
- Full company information: name, address, legal form, status, SIC and NACE codes, directors, financials
- One JSON schema for every market, one integration
- No key for the sample, production key on signup

A company information API for every system
The same company information, wherever your team works: a real-time business lookup in your CRM, your onboarding flow, your BI tool or your own product. One integration, verified records from the register, every market.
- Onboard businesses with official records
- Enrich CRMs with live business information
- Automate compliance and business verification
- Enable robust business lookup within your products
- Identify owners, directors and UBOs
- Support business intelligence tools with quality data

Built for AI agents: one MCP server, every register
Give your SDR or onboarding agent a tool that returns the registered record instead of a scraped guess. Search and export are exposed as tools; the agent calls them like any other and gets back structured JSON from the register.
- MCP server for Claude, Cursor and ChatGPT, installed in one line
- Stable entity IDs, so an agent never re-matches the same business twice
- Structured JSON from official registers, nothing to clean up before the next step
- Same endpoints for enrichment: append verified fields to the records you already hold
Two endpoints and a lookup, that is the whole API
Authenticate with an x-api-key header, filter with query parameters, page through with page and pageSize, or scroll for unlimited exports.
GET /api/company/searchName, ID and country for any typed query. Add countryCode, or set statusCode to 0,1 to keep it to headquarters.
GET /api/company/exportEvery field in your package: financials, employees, contacts. Standard pagination or scroll, without record limits.
GET /api/citiesExact city values for address search and autocomplete inputs. Cities have no ISO codes, so we normalise them.

Corporate structure API
One record connects business identity, ownership structures, hierarchies and business relationships: local, national and global headquarters on every entity, and the whole group from any one of them.
- Parent, ultimate parent and subsidiaries
- Group size on every record, for CRM roll-ups
- Register IDs you can join on, no proprietary numbering
Register-Sourced, Not Scraped
Most company APIs are built by scraping websites and social profiles. That gives you the businesses that are on LinkedIn and have a website, often 40 to 50 million, and misses most registered entities: holdings, trusts, subsidiaries, and nearly every plumber, haulier and builder. Good enough for marketing; not for onboarding or KYC, where the business you are checking is exactly the one without a profile.
A few legacy providers, Dun & Bradstreet, Moody's and Creditsafe, do hold register data, and sell it the way they always have: a sales cycle, an annual contract, a quote. This API is the modern version of that. Every record starts at the official trade register of its country, on flexible terms, whether you are a two-person team or a SaaS platform whose customers all hit the same key.
That is why the records carry registration numbers, legal forms, filed accounts and group structures that scraped sources do not have. Some customers take a monthly bulk file with the API on top: the same registers, delivered both ways.
Among the registers behind the API: KVK (Netherlands), Companies House (UK), SEC EDGAR (USA) and 200+ more official authorities.

How businesses use the Company Data API
Compliance teams verify with it, sales teams build with it. Same two endpoints, same records, different filters.
Compliance and onboarding
Verify registration number, legal status, address, VAT number and date of incorporation the moment a business signs up.
Confirm the entity exists and is active, then walk the ownership chain to the people who control it.
Pre-fill KYC and KYB web forms from the register, so the customer confirms instead of types.
Sales and prospecting
Country, industry code, size and revenue as query parameters. The result is a list of verified businesses, not a scrape.
Append firmographics, group structure and registered contacts to the records you already hold, on a schedule.
Expose search and export as tools through the MCP server, and let the agent qualify accounts against the register.
The value of local, verified data
The Company Data API connects to official local registers. You get real-time, accurate business data directly from reliable sources.
- Compliant data from government registers
- Complete coverage from small firms to global enterprises
- Accurate information, no scraping or estimates
- Refreshed every month, so new registrations and dissolutions land within weeks
- Fast search for any business worldwide

Public prices, a 7-day trial on every plan, and the same key when you move up a tier. Platforms that need no rate limits get a custom plan.
Two ways to use the API
Sign up yourself. Pick a plan, start a 7-day trial, and the key is issued at once. Plans from $34 a month, prices public, 50 requests per second. Right for an onboarding flow, an internal tool, or a product with a steady number of calls.
Or talk to us. For platforms where many of your own customers share one key, and a rate limit would mean your product stalls. Custom plans have no rate limit, are priced on volume from €500 a month, and start with a few weeks of testing on your own use case, up to 1,000 free calls, no credit card.
Tell us what you want to look up and how many calls you expect.
* Card-free trials are for teams that fit a custom plan: platforms, higher volumes, or many end users on one key. Self-serve plans start a 7-day trial at signup.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best company data API?
The best company data API depends on your use case. For registry-sourced KYB and compliance across 190+ countries with one REST schema, CompanyData is a leading option: 374M+ businesses from official trade registers, corporate hierarchy export, and sub-200 ms responses.
For HubSpot-native inbound enrichment, Clearbit (Breeze) may fit better. For credit scores and D-U-N-S workflows, Dun & Bradstreet remains the incumbent. For a structured comparison, see Choosing a company data API or the B2B data API comparison.
What is the best Clearbit alternative?
After Clearbit became HubSpot Breeze Intelligence, teams outside HubSpot typically evaluate registry-first APIs and independent enrichment vendors. CompanyData is a strong Clearbit alternative when you need official registration numbers, legal status, directors, financials where published, and worldwide corporate structure rather than website-inferred firmographics alone.
See the full Clearbit alternatives comparison (2026) or start with the API quickstart.
What is the best Dun & Bradstreet alternative for API access?
D&B excels at credit-led workflows and D-U-N-S identifiers. For developer-first REST access, transparent API pricing, and register-sourced business records without a long enterprise cycle, CompanyData is a common D&B alternative, especially for product integrations, KYB onboarding, and global autocomplete.
Compare providers in Dun & Bradstreet alternatives or read Choosing a company data API.
What is a company data API?
A company data API is an interface that returns structured information about a business, on request, in JSON. Instead of looking a business up by hand or buying a static file, your software asks for a record and gets back the registered name, address, registration number, industry code, size, directors and ownership.
The CompanyData API covers 374 million businesses in 190+ countries, sourced from official trade registers rather than inferred from websites.
What API can I use to get company details?
It depends how much ground you need to cover. A national register API, such as Companies House or the Handelsregister, is free and authoritative but stops at one country and rarely holds contact details or structured financials.
The CompanyData API gives you one endpoint and one schema across every market, so you do not have to build and maintain a separate integration per country. Start with the quickstart or browse the full reference.
How much does a company data API cost?
Pricing is credit based and scales with volume, so a lookup tool with a few thousand calls a month does not pay enterprise rates. Every account starts with a free trial: 1,000 lookups and 100 exports over two weeks, no card required.
For steady high volume we quote per million records, which lands well below per-call pricing. Tell us your expected monthly volume in the form and you get a concrete number back.
Is there a free company data API?
Yes, in two senses. National registers publish free APIs, and we run free trial access with 1,000 lookups so you can test real responses before committing.
What free register APIs do not give you is coverage beyond one country, contact details, decision makers, or a single schema across markets. That is the gap the paid tier fills.
Where does the data come from?
From official trade registers: Companies House, the Handelsregister, the KVK, the KBO, Sirene, and roughly 1,200 more sources worldwide. Every field has a documented origin and a lawful basis, and we hand that documentation over on request.
This is the main difference with providers that infer firmographics from websites and social profiles. Registry data does not go stale the moment a website is redesigned, and it holds entities that have no web presence at all.
Which countries does the API cover?
Over 200, with the same request shape and the same response schema everywhere. Coverage per country reflects what the local register publishes, so field completeness varies: we are transparent about that per market rather than claiming uniform depth.
Country register pages such as Companies House, Sirene and CVR show exactly what is available locally.
Can I use it to enrich my CRM?
Yes, that is one of the most common uses. Send a company name, domain or registration number and get back the full record to write into Salesforce, HubSpot or your own system. Records can be refreshed on a schedule so your CRM does not drift.
Matching handles the awkward cases: legal form suffixes, trade names and multiple entities at one address.
Can I use it for KYB and compliance checks?
Yes. Because records come from the register, they carry what a Know Your Business check needs: legal name, registration number, status, registered address, directors and ownership structure up to the ultimate beneficial owner where the register publishes it.
See the KYB API and KYC API pages for the compliance-specific endpoints.
How do I integrate the API?
It is a REST API returning JSON, authenticated with an API key in a header. Most teams have a first live call inside an afternoon; the quickstart walks it in five minutes. Average response time is under 200 ms.
There are SDKs for Python and JavaScript, and connectors for Salesforce, Zapier and webhooks if you would rather not write the integration yourself.
How fresh is the data?
The registers are re-read every month, so a business dissolved or newly registered this month shows up within weeks rather than at the next annual file. Every page that quotes a count shows the month it was last refreshed.
Between refreshes the record you get is the register's record as of that refresh, so what you are relying on is what the register held at that point.
Are there rate limits?
Yes. Self-serve plans allow 50 requests per second by default, with a monthly request allowance sized to the plan; the authentication docs list the current figures. That suits an onboarding flow or an internal tool, where calls arrive one at a time.
If the API sits inside a platform that many of your own customers hit at once, ask for a custom plan: those carry no rate limit, start at €500 a month, and can be tested without a credit card.
Is the API GDPR compliant?
Yes. The data is business information from public registers with a documented source and lawful basis, which is what a data protection officer will ask to see. GDPR applies in Europe and the UK, CCPA in the United States.
Where records contain personal data, such as director names, we supply the provenance and the basis for processing it.
