Malaysia Company Register: How to Search the SSM and Verify Malaysian Companies (2026)

Malaysia keeps companies, sole proprietorships, partnerships, and limited liability partnerships with one regulator, and its standard company profile is unusually complete: directors, shareholders, charges, and a summary of the filed accounts with revenue and profit, in one PDF. The catch is that almost none of it is free. The official search tells you how many matches it found and then asks you to sign in. This guide covers 792,264 registered entities: how to search them, what each product costs, and how to verify a Malaysian company step by step.

1. What is the Malaysian company register?

The Companies Commission of Malaysia, Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia or SSM, is a statutory body formed by merging the Office of the Registrar of Companies (ROC) and the Office of the Registrar of Businesses (ROB). It started operating on 16 April 2002 and sits under the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living. Its core job is in its own description: incorporate companies, register businesses and LLPs, and supply information about all three to the public.

Behind that one regulator sit three registers under three laws. Companies are incorporated under the Companies Act 2016 (Act 777), which replaced the Companies Act 1965. Sole proprietorships and partnerships are registered under the Registration of Businesses Act 1956 (Act 197). Limited liability partnerships fall under the Limited Liability Partnerships Act 2012 (Act 743). The old split still shows in the product names: a Company Profile is labelled ROC, a Business Profile ROB.

SSM does not sell company and business profiles from its own website. Its product pages send you to four service-provider portals instead: SSM e-Info, MYDATA-SSM, SSM Search, and SSM SAFEDATA. SSM e-Info, run by Raffcomm Technologies Sdn Bhd, calls itself the official and authorised service portal, and it is the one this guide uses.

SystemWhat it holdsAccess
SSM e-Info ssm-einfo.mySearch over companies, businesses, LLPs, and audit firms; company and business profiles, financial comparisons, charges, particulars, document images, certificatesMatch count free, results need an account, products paid

3. What data is public and what it costs

The law makes register documents available to anyone who pays: under section 601 of the Companies Act 2016, any person may inspect documents lodged with the Registrar "on payment of the prescribed fee". Each price has two layers. SSM sets the fee, RM10 for a company profile, and the provider adds a service charge with 8% service tax on that charge, which is why the same profile costs RM15.40 on e-Info. The prices below are e-Info's, with the certified true copy (CTC) price where one exists. The last two rows are SSM's own products.

ItemFree or paidPrice
Search on SSM e-Info by name or numberFreeRM0, match count only
Company Profile (ROC)PaidRM15.40, CTC RM30.80
Business Profile (ROB)PaidRM15.40, CTC RM25.80
LLP ProfilePaidRM25.40, CTC RM40.80
Financial Comparison (2, 3, 5, or 10 years)PaidRM25.40, RM35.40, RM55.40, RM105.40
Company ChargesPaidRM25.40, CTC RM40.80
Particulars of directors, shareholders, or share capitalPaidRM25.40 each, CTC RM40.80
Document listing and document imagesPaidRM15.40 each, CTC image RM30.80
Attestation of Company Good StandingPaidRM105.40
Personal involvement search (director, shareholder)PaidRM55.40 per search
Company listing (bulk, e-Info)PaidRM23.24 processing, then RM4.08 per company
CBID bulk data, ordered from SSMPaidRM20 per application, then RM1 per company per table
Beneficial ownership informationRestrictedRM20 per company, authorised applicants only

The good news is in the second row. The Company Profile includes a summary of financial information from the accounts on file: the auditor, the financial year end, whether the audit report was unqualified, balance sheet items, revenue, and profit before and after tax, next to the directors, shareholders, share capital, and registered charges. That puts revenue and profit in the standard RM15.40 extract, where many registers keep them in separate filings. The Financial Comparison products add the same figures for up to ten years.

What you will not find: a phone number or e-mail address in the company profile, which has no field for either, and beneficial owners, which SSM releases only to a short list of authorised applicants. The profile describes the activity as a free-text nature of business, without a code, although the business codes SSM uses are based on MSIC 2008. A Business Profile, by contrast, carries a lot of personal data about the owners, with fields for identity card number, date of birth, race, gender, and nationality.

5. How to verify a Malaysian company: a practical checklist

  1. Confirm the number and the status

    Buy the Company Profile and check that the name, both registration numbers, the incorporation date, the company type, and the registered address match what you were given. The status should read EXISTING. SSM also uses statuses such as Winding Up and Dissolved. For a quick first pass, our free company lookup finds the registration and revenue data in one search.
  2. Check that it is not about to be struck off

    Run the company number through SSM's Status 308/550 check, which shows the status of an application to strike the company off under section 550 of the Companies Act 2016 (section 308 of the 1965 Act). Then look through the strike-off notifications SSM publishes in dated batches under section 551(1). Once thirty days have passed since a notification, the Registrar may strike the name off the register.
  3. Verify who runs it and who owns it

    The profile lists the directors and secretary with their appointment dates, and the shareholders with their holdings. If the person signing for the company has only just appeared, buy the Particulars of Directors/Officers for RM25.40, which goes back fifteen years.
  4. Read the figures, and the date under them

    Check the financial year end, the date the accounts were tabled, and whether the report was unqualified. The profile also states the registration date of the company document its information comes from. An exempt private company may lodge a certificate under section 260 of the Act in place of its financial statements, so a certificate where you expected accounts is not in itself a red flag. See SSM's annual submission rules for the deadlines.
  5. Look at the charges

    Registered charges appear on the profile with the chargee, the amount, the date of creation, and whether each one is satisfied. Note which charges are still unsatisfied and in whose favour. The Company Charges product gives the detail behind each one, including the assets charged.
  6. Authenticate the documents you are handed

    If a counterparty sends you an SSM document rather than letting you buy one, check it. Digitally certified true copies can be validated with SSM's DCTC Web Checker on SSM4U or the DCTC QR code reader app, an Attestation of Company Good Standing carries a QR code you can compare with the stored copy, and an SSM BizTrust QR code scanned with the MySSM app shows the business name, registration number, status, and web address.

6. Limitations of the official register

To be clear: once you have paid, SSM's data is detailed and the prices are low. The limits are about getting to it:

  • No free record. The anonymous e-Info search returns a match count and nothing else. Reading a company's status there means signing in and buying a profile.
  • Login and prepaid credit first. Every product needs an e-Info account and a topped-up e-Account, and the PDF you buy disappears from your history after seven days.
  • One document, one purchase. Director history, charge details, shareholder changes, and multi-year financials are separate products, and a full check of one company runs to several of them.
  • Beneficial owners are closed to the public. SSM supplies them only to the owner, someone the owner authorised in writing, Bank Negara Malaysia, enforcement agencies, reporting institutions, and the Ministry of Finance for procurement.
  • Not every company lodges its accounts. An exempt private company may lodge a certificate in place of its financial statements, so for some companies the register holds that certificate rather than the accounts themselves.
  • No published API price. e-Info offers real-time data through API integration, but only on enquiry. SSM's own bulk data (CBID) is priced per application and per company.
  • Two numbering systems. Entities registered before 11 October 2019 also carry an old-format number, older documents may show only that one, and matching your files against SSM means handling both formats.
  • Labuan is elsewhere. Labuan companies sit with Labuan FSA and its own search, so a search across Malaysia needs a second source.

If you verify one Malaysian supplier a quarter, a few ringgit and a login are a fair price. If you onboard hundreds, it is the whole problem.

7. Access SSM register data programmatically

CompanyData maintains a normalized database of all 792,264 Malaysian entities, sourced from the SSM registers of companies, businesses, and LLPs and refreshed as new records appear. Records are enriched with employee and contact data that the SSM company profile does not carry, so you do not have to buy and parse a PDF per company to build a list.

Our Company Data API lets you look up any Malaysian entity by registration number, name, or address and get structured JSON back in real time, with 150 free lookups to start and no e-Info account or prepaid wallet. It is used by developers, banks, and insurers across 190+ countries, so Malaysian checks work exactly like checks anywhere else.

Example: look up a company by name

GET /v1/companies?country=MY&name=Petroliam%20Nasional%20Berhad

{
  "name": "Petroliam Nasional Berhad",
  "legal_form": "Berhad"
}

We kept this example to the two values we can stand behind: the name, and the legal form its Berhad ending spells out. SSM e-Info confirmed one match for Petronas but showed nothing more without a login, so the registration number, status, and address are left out here rather than guessed. On a live lookup they come back on the same record, with employee and contact data where we hold them.

8. Malaysia vs other company registers

Malaysia gives away less at the front door than most registers in this table, then puts a lot into each paid document: the RM15.40 company profile already carries revenue and profit. For context:

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the Malaysia Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (SSM).

Only partly. SSM e-Info lets anyone type a name or registration number and tells you how many matches it found, but the results need an account and the records are paid products. A Company Profile costs RM15.40 on e-Info, or RM30.80 as a certified true copy. SSM's own e-Search on its corporate portal checks a single registration number behind a reCAPTCHA.
SSM, Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia or the Companies Commission of Malaysia, is the regulator. It was formed by merging the Office of the Registrar of Companies (ROC) and the Office of the Registrar of Businesses (ROB) and started operating on 16 April 2002. The old names survive in the products: a Company Profile is labelled ROC and a Business Profile ROB.
Since 11 October 2019 SSM uses a 12-digit number for companies, businesses, and LLPs, such as 201901000005. The old number, digits followed by a letter such as 1312525-A, is printed in brackets next to it, so documents often read 201901000005 (1312525-A). In SSM's own sample documents the first four digits match the year of registration.
You can see the figures. The Company Profile includes a summary of financial information from the accounts on file: auditor, financial year end, balance sheet items, revenue, and profit before and after tax. Financial Comparison reports cover 2, 3, 5, or 10 years for RM25.40 to RM105.40 on e-Info. An exempt private company may lodge a certificate in place of its financial statements, so for those companies the register holds that certificate rather than the accounts. For figures at scale, see our Malaysian company records with financials.
Not one with a published price or self-service sign-up. SSM e-Info offers Corporate Integration Data, real-time SSM data through API integration, but only on enquiry and without a published price. SSM itself sells bulk data (CBID) from RM20 per application plus RM1 per company per table. For immediate structured access, use our Company Data API.
Yes. SSM e-Info runs in English and Malay, and the profiles use English labels such as Registration No., Incorporation Date, and Status. Company names stay as registered, with Malay endings such as Sdn. Bhd. and Berhad, and a copy of a business registration certificate is available in Malay or English.
They tell you the type of company. Under section 25 of the Companies Act 2016, a private company's name ends with Sendirian Berhad or Sdn. Bhd., a public company's with Berhad or Bhd., and an unlimited company's with Sendirian or Sdn. Limited liability partnerships end with Perkongsian Liabiliti Terhad or PLT.
The legal owners, yes: the Company Profile lists the shareholders and their holdings, and Particulars of Shareholders costs RM25.40 on e-Info. The beneficial owners, generally no. SSM supplies beneficial ownership information only to the owner, people the owner authorised in writing, Bank Negara Malaysia, enforcement agencies, reporting institutions, and the Ministry of Finance for procurement, at RM20 per company.
Use the Status 308/550 check on SSM's corporate portal. It takes a company registration number in the old or new format and shows the status of an application to strike the company off under section 550 of the Companies Act 2016. SSM also publishes strike-off notifications under section 551(1) in dated batches, and the Registrar may strike the name off once thirty days have passed since publication.
They come under a separate regime. Labuan companies fall under the Labuan Financial Services Authority (Labuan FSA): they must be incorporated through a licensed Labuan trust company, and registration runs through Labuan FSA's COR@L system. When a counterparty says it is a Labuan company, check it with Labuan FSA's free REEFS search, which needs the exact entity name or registration number.
