Vietnam Company Register: How to Search the National Business Registration Portal and Verify Vietnamese Companies (2026)

Vietnam merged business registration and tax registration into a single procedure, so every company carries one enterprise code that is also its tax code, and one national database holds them all. Reading that database is another matter. The basic record is free but opens behind a reCAPTCHA, and certificates, company histories, and financial statements are sold per copy. This guide covers 1,828,939 registered entities: how to search them, what each product costs, and how to verify a Vietnamese company step by step.

1. What is the Vietnamese company register?

Vietnam keeps one national register for every enterprise in the country. Companies register with the business registration office of their province, but every record lands in the National Business Registration Information System, which has run nationwide since 31 December 2010 on a national database built by integrating the company databases of 63 provinces and cities. The public face of that system is the National Business Registration Portal, in Vietnamese the Cổng thông tin quốc gia về đăng ký doanh nghiệp. The portal describes the data held by the registration offices as the original record, with legal value.

The register changed ministry in 2025. It was built by the Agency for Business Registration of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, set up in September 2010. It is now run by the Cục Phát triển doanh nghiệp tư nhân và kinh tế tập thể (roughly, the Agency for Private Enterprise and Collective Economy Development) of the Ministry of Finance, whose tasks under Decision 377/QĐ-BTC of 26 February 2025 include operating the national information system on enterprises, cooperatives, and household businesses and providing information from it. Older guides, and some of the portal's own English pages, still name the old ministry.

For a reader, the record, the filed documents, and the accounts all come out of the same information service, as free or paid products. The accounts are copied in from the financial statements companies file with the tax authority:

3. What data is public and what it costs

Vietnam's register has a free layer and a paid layer, and the line between them is clear. Finding a company and reading its basic record costs nothing. Everything beyond that is priced per copy or per report under Circular 47/2019/TT-BTC of the Ministry of Finance, the fee schedule the portal publishes on its fee page.

ItemFree or paidPrice
Company search and suggestion listFreeVND 0, no account
Basic information (name, code, status, legal form, founding date, legal representative, head office, seal sample, business lines)FreeVND 0, after a reCAPTCHA
List of e-gazette announcements, application statusFreeVND 0
Business Registration Certificate information, also for branches, representative offices, and business locationsPaidVND 20,000 per copy
Documents in the registration file; financial statementsPaidVND 40,000 per copy
Consolidated reports: three-year history, founders and managers over three years, latest registration data, financial situation over three years, a list of 100 companies on requestPaidVND 150,000 per report
Account access for 125 copies a month or morePaidVND 4,500,000 per month
Publishing a company's registration content in the e-gazette (paid by the company)PaidVND 100,000 per publication

Two points stand out. The prices are low: VND 40,000 buys a copy of a company's filed financial statements, without the notes, and the portal names the financial statements of joint stock companies among its functions. And the free record stops short of what most checks need. The free fields, as the service itself lists them, include no charter capital and no financial figures. For more, you order the certificate, the latest-registration report (which adds the founding shareholders of a joint stock company and some financial and tax figures), or the filings.

5. How to verify a Vietnamese company: a practical checklist

  1. Confirm the enterprise code and the name

Search the code in the information service and check that the name in the suggestion list, which ends in the legal form, matches what you were given. Because the enterprise code is also the tax code, the number on an invoice should be the same one. For a quick first pass, our free company lookup finds the registration and revenue data in one search.
  2. Make sure you have the right number

The search list shows two numbers per company. The enterprise code (Mã số doanh nghiệp) identifies the company; the internal number (Mã số nội bộ) is the system's own reference, and branches and business locations carry one too. Watch for suffixes as well: 0101245486-002 is Vingroup's Ho Chi Minh City branch, not Vingroup itself. If a counterparty hands you a number that matches the internal one, ask for the enterprise code.
  3. Check the status and the legal representative

Open the basic information behind the reCAPTCHA and read the status field, then the name of the legal representative, the person who acts for the company. If someone else is signing, ask for their authorisation. Where a seal sample was filed, you can compare it with the stamp on your documents.
  4. Read the e-gazette announcements

The basic record lists the announcements the company has published. The e-gazette sorts them into new registrations, changes, change notices, violations and revocations, and dissolutions. A recent change of legal representative or a revocation notice is exactly what you are looking for.
  5. Order the certificate or the three-year history

For anything that matters, buy the Business Registration Certificate information (VND 20,000) or the consolidated three-year history (VND 150,000), which shows the current data and every registration change over the last three years. The history arrives the next morning, so order it a day ahead.
  6. For a joint stock company, buy the financial statements

Order the filed financial statements at VND 40,000 per copy. Check the period they cover as well as the figures, because the most recent filing tells you whether the company is still reporting.

6. Limitations of the official register

To be fair to it: for a handful of checks, the portal is cheap and the basic record is free. The limits show up when you need scale, a foreign card, or English:

  • A reCAPTCHA on every record. Each company page opens one at a time behind its own reCAPTCHA, which rules out checking a list of suppliers at any speed.
  • The free record is thin. The free fields include no charter capital and no financial figures. Everything beyond identity, status, business lines, and the list of announcements is a paid product.
  • Foreign cards may not work. The portal's 2017 payment FAQ says it accepts international cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB) only when they are issued by a bank in Vietnam.
  • Not everything is instant. The three-year history and the report on a person's roles are generated overnight and delivered the next morning.
  • English is an afterthought. The English pages still carry the Ministry of Planning and Investment's name and a fee table from a circular that expired in 2019. The suggestion list shows company names in Vietnamese, with full diacritics.
  • Addresses are not uniform. In the data behind one search, Vingroup's head office reads Phường Phúc Lợi, Thành phố Hà Nội with no district, while another Vingroup-named company's address still includes Quận Long Biên. Match on the enterprise code, never the address.
  • No public API. We found no developer interface on the portal. The closest thing is account access at VND 4,500,000 a month for 125 copies or more, or a customised product by agreement.

If you check one Vietnamese supplier a year, none of this matters. If you onboard hundreds, it is the whole problem.

7. Access Vietnamese register data programmatically

CompanyData maintains a normalized database of all 1,828,939 Vietnamese entities, sourced from the National Business Registration Portal and refreshed as new registrations appear. Enterprise codes are already parsed and validated, and records are enriched with revenue, employees, and contact data that the free basic record does not show.

Our Company Data API lets you look up any Vietnamese entity by enterprise code, name, or address and get structured JSON back in real time, with 150 free lookups to start and no reCAPTCHA or card payment in the way. It is used by developers, banks, and insurers across 190+ countries, so Vietnamese checks work exactly like checks anywhere else.

Example: look up a company by name

GET /v1/companies?country=VN&name=Vingroup

We have left the response out on purpose. Our capture of Vingroup's record for this guide stopped at the information service, so there is no register record to check a response against, and we do not print values we have not seen on a captured record. Run the request with your free lookups and compare the result with the basic information on the portal yourself.

8. Vietnam vs other company registers

Vietnam scores well on identifiers, with one code for registration and tax, and on price, and poorly on open access. For context:

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the Vietnam National Business Registration Portal.

Yes. Searching the National Business Registration Portal is free and needs no account, and so is the basic information: name, enterprise code, status, legal form, founding date, legal representative, head office, seal sample, business lines, and the list of e-gazette announcements. You have to pass a reCAPTCHA to see it. Certificate information, histories, registration documents, and financial statements are paid, from VND 20,000 to VND 150,000 each.
It is a number assigned at registration and kept for the company's whole life. Vingroup's, for example, is 0101245486, and its Ho Chi Minh City branch shows as 0101245486-002. The search list also shows an internal number, 0005338026 for Vingroup, which is the system's own reference and not the enterprise code.
Yes. Vietnam merged business registration and tax registration into one procedure with one enterprise code shared by the registration office and the tax authority. The portal's FAQ adds that the code is never reused for another company and does not change when the company changes its name or legal form.
Since 2025, the Cục Phát triển doanh nghiệp tư nhân và kinh tế tập thể of the Ministry of Finance, under Decision 377/QĐ-BTC of 26 February 2025. Before that it was the Agency for Business Registration of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, set up in 2010. The registrations themselves are handled by provincial registration offices for enterprises and by commune-level offices for cooperatives and household businesses.
Partly. Both the portal and the information service have an English switch, and the search box reads Search enterprise name in English. But the suggestion list still shows company names in Vietnamese, and the English pages are out of date: they still show the Ministry of Planning and Investment and a fee table from a circular that expired in 2019. Use the Vietnamese fee page for prices.
Not one we could find. The portal's services are online registration, the information service, and the e-gazette. For volume, the fee schedule offers account access at VND 4,500,000 a month for 125 copies or more, and the information service takes requests for customised products by agreement. For immediate structured access, use our Company Data API.
For joint stock companies, yes. The portal lists providing their financial statements among its functions, and the information service sells copies, without the notes, at VND 40,000 each under the current fee schedule. The product only appears when the system holds statements for that company. For statements and company data at scale, see our Vietnamese company records.
Possibly not. The portal takes domestic cards through NAPAS and international cards, but its 2017 payment FAQ says the international cards it accepts (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB) are those issued by a bank in Vietnam, and that cards issued outside Vietnam are not supported.
It is the portal's publication of registration content. Companies publish their registration details there for VND 100,000 per publication, and anyone can look up the announcements: new registrations, changes, change notices, violations and revocations, and dissolutions. A company's list of announcements is part of its free basic information.
They are registered separately. Household businesses (hộ kinh doanh) and cooperatives (hợp tác xã) register at commune level and file through their own online systems, and the portal gives cooperatives a search option of their own, Tìm hợp tác xã, next to the enterprise search.
