Israel Company Register: How to Search the Registrar of Companies and Verify Israeli Companies (2026)

Israel gives every company one nine-digit number and publishes the basics free, both as a lookup and as a daily open data file that covers the whole register. What it does not give away is the people: directors and shareholders sit in a NIS 12 extract, the lookup runs in Hebrew only, and private companies generally file no accounts. This guide covers 948,241 Israeli entities: how to search them, what each document costs, and how to verify an Israeli company step by step.

1. What is the Israeli company register?

Israel keeps its companies in one national register. The Registrar of Companies (רשם החברות) sits inside the Israeli Corporations Authority (רשות התאגידים), which was set up in the Ministry of Justice in 2007, following a government decision of March 2006, as the body responsible for registering and supervising most corporations in the country. The same Authority also runs the registrars of partnerships, pledges, associations and public benefit companies, charitable trusts, political parties, and business names.

The register is governed by the Companies Law, 5759-1999, and its public face is Tagidim Online (תאגידים ברשת, called Corporations Online on the English pages), the Authority's portal at ica.justice.gov.il. It splits what the register knows into a free layer, which anyone can read and which the Ministry also publishes in bulk, and a paid layer that holds the people and the paperwork. The official service pages that explain both are on gov.il, partly in English.

SystemWhat it holdsAccess
Free company information ica.justice.gov.ilCorporation number, Hebrew and English name, type, status and sub-status, purpose, incorporation date, limited or not, government company or not, address, annual fee debts, violator flag, last annual report yearFree, no account
Company extract (נסח חברה) via Tagidim OnlineThe basic details plus the date of the last annual report, the capital composition, the shareholders, the directors, and the registered chargesNIS 12 in Hebrew; the English version holds basic data only, without charges
Corporation file (תיק חברה) via Tagidim OnlineEvery document the company has filed since registration, such as the certificate of incorporation, name change certificates, and the articles, scanned and electronically signedNIS 39
Companies database data.gov.ilEvery company in the register, in every status from active to struck off, with the basic fields of the free lookup except the fee debts, refreshed dailyFree, CSV and API

In short: the free lookup tells you a company exists and whether it is in good standing, the extract tells you who owns and runs it, and the corporation file shows you what it actually filed.

3. What data is public and what it costs

Israel charges for people, not for existence. Whether a company is registered and active is free to check, one at a time or in bulk, and its fee debts are free to check one company at a time. Who owns and runs it costs NIS 12 a time. The prices below are the Authority's 2026 fee table, and payments to the state usually carry no VAT.

Reverse search: the companies a person or company sits inPaidNIS 12 per search, login required
Partnership extractPaidNIS 12

Two things stand out in that table. Israel publishes its free layer in bulk, so you can check every company's status and violator flag at once without paying anyone. And the people sit behind the paywall: shareholders and directors appear only in the extract, the corporation file, and the reverse search, never in the free lookup or the open data. A paid extract is current to the moment you paid for it, so a fresh check means a fresh NIS 12.

What you will not find in the register: financial statements for most private companies, revenue, employee counts, or industry codes. The annual report a private company files is an update of its details, not its accounts, and a balance sheet is attached only in the cases section 175(a) of the Companies Law sets out, for example when the company's own articles require one. The purpose field does not replace an industry code either: Teva's reads "to engage in the types of business specified in the articles", and in the open data nearly every other company's reads either that or "to engage in any lawful business".

5. How to verify an Israeli company: a practical checklist

  1. Confirm the number, the names, and the status

    Search the nine-digit number on Tagidim Online and check that the Hebrew and English names, the type, and the address match what you were given, and that the status reads פעילה (active). For a quick first pass, our free company lookup finds the registration and revenue data in one search.
  2. Check the violator flag and the fee debts

    Both are free on the record. A violating company (חברה מפרה) missed its annual report or its annual fees, was warned, and did not fix it within 30 days. While the note stands, the Registrar will not register new charges, a name change, or a merger for it. Unpaid fees for any of the past seven years are one of the two routes to that status.
  3. Look at the last annual report year

    A private company that is not a reporting corporation has to file every calendar year, and missing the current or previous year exposes it to violator status. For a public company, look for its reports on the Israel Securities Authority's MAGNA system instead.
  4. Buy the extract and check who can sign

    For NIS 12 the Hebrew extract gives you the directors, the shareholders, the capital, and the charges. Check that the person signing for the company is a director. The Authority calls this data declarative: it does not replace the registers of shareholders and directors the company keeps at its registered office, which are open to the public.
  5. Read the charges before you extend credit

    The Hebrew extract lists each registered charge with its type, its registration and creation dates, and a description of the charged assets. The English extract leaves the charges out. Tick the extended extract at no extra cost to add the Bank of Israel's restricted-account data, the company's patents and trademarks, and other data from government sources.
  6. Pull the file for the articles

    The corporation file (NIS 39) holds the certificate of incorporation, any name change certificates, and the articles as filed. The documents carry a secure electronic signature and are admissible in court once printed.
  7. Run a reverse search on the people

    If you can log in through the national identification system or with a smart card, a reverse search (NIS 12 per search) lists the companies in which a director or shareholder holds office or shares, with start and end dates. Public benefit companies are excluded. A cluster of recent appointments is worth a question.

6. Limitations of the official register

To be clear: for a handful of lookups, the Israeli register is cheap, quick, and unusually open about status. The limits appear when you need people, accounts, scale, or an interface in another language:

  • Hebrew only. The search screen, the result columns, and the record labels are all in Hebrew. The English gov.il pages explain the services but do not translate the lookup.
  • No people in the free layer. Directors and shareholders appear only in the paid extract, the corporation file, and the reverse search, never in the free lookup or the open data file.
  • No accounts for most private companies. The annual report is a details update, not financial statements. Companies that report to the Israel Securities Authority publish prospectuses and periodic reports through MAGNA instead.
  • The data is officially provisional. The Authority states that the free information may be incomplete, inaccurate, or out of date, and that shareholder and director data in a company file is declarative only.
  • A 14-day reporting window. Changes to the capital, the shareholders, the board, and the address must be reported within 14 days, so a recent change can be missing for that long, or longer if a company reports late.
  • The person search needs a local login. The reverse search requires the national identification system or a smart card. Without either, you cannot go from a person to their companies.
  • No resale of extracts. Ordering an extract means agreeing not to distribute extracts commercially to the public for more than the statutory fee.
  • Bulk stops at the basics. The open data file covers status in bulk, but extracts and files are paid per company and reverse searches per search.

If you check one Israeli supplier a quarter, none of this matters. If you onboard hundreds, it is the whole problem.

7. Access Israeli register data programmatically

The register has an official machine route, and it is a good one for what it covers. The companies database on data.gov.il is free, refreshed daily, and queryable through the open data portal's API. It stops at the basic fields: no directors, no shareholders, no documents, and no financial data.

CompanyData maintains a normalized database of all 948,241 Israeli entities, sourced directly from the Israeli register and refreshed as new entries and filings appear. Records are enriched with revenue, employee, and contact data, and the official register publishes no revenue or employee figures at all.

Our Company Data API lets you look up any Israeli entity by company number, name, or address and get structured JSON back in real time, with 150 free lookups to start and no Hebrew interface to work through. It is used by developers, banks, and insurers across 190+ countries, so Israeli checks work exactly like checks anywhere else.

Example: look up a company by company number

GET /v1/companies?country=IL&registration_id=520013954

{
  "name": "TEVA PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRIES LIMITED",
  "registration_id": "520013954",
  "city": "Tel Aviv - Yafo",
  "status": "active",
  "incorporation_date": "1944-02-13",
  "last_annual_report": 2006
}

Every field above is what the free record on Tagidim Online shows for Teva: the registered English name, the nine-digit number, the city of the registered address (תל אביב - יפו on the record), the status פעילה (active), the incorporation date, and the year in the annual report column. Revenue and employee counts come back on the same record where we hold them, and are absent here for the reason this guide keeps running into: the Israeli register does not publish them.

8. Israel vs other company registers

Israel is generous with status data and keeps people and accounts behind a fee or out of the register altogether. For context:

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the Israel Registrar of Companies (Israeli Corporations Authority).

Yes, for the basics. The free lookup on Tagidim Online shows the company number, name, type, status, purpose, address, whether the company is limited, any annual fee debts, and whether the company has been registered as a violator, with no account. Directors, shareholders, capital, and charges need the company extract, which costs NIS 12 in 2026.
Nine digits, such as Teva Pharmaceutical Industries' 520013954. The Corporations Authority's own pages also call it the ח.פ, and the free lookup, the extract, the corporation file, and the reverse search all take it as input. The company type (private, public, or foreign) is a separate field on the record.
Not really. The search screen on Tagidim Online is in Hebrew, and the main name field on every record is the Hebrew one. Records do carry a registered English name where the company has one, as Teva's does (TEVA PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRIES LIMITED), and the paid extract can be ordered in English, though the English version holds basic data only, without the charges, and cannot be produced for a company that has no English name. The gov.il pages that explain the services are available in English, and a company or partnership that registers or changes its name from 18 February 2025 receives its certificate of incorporation or name change in Hebrew and English.
Order the company extract in Hebrew for NIS 12: it lists the directors, the shareholders, the capital composition, and the registered charges. To go the other way, from a person to their companies, the reverse search returns the companies in which an ID number or company number holds office or shares, with start and end dates, at NIS 12 per search and after a national identification or smart card login. Both are declarative and do not replace the registers the company keeps at its registered office.
Yes, for the free layer. The Ministry of Justice publishes the companies database on data.gov.il, refreshed daily and free under an open licence, and the government open data portal puts an API on top of it. It carries the basic fields only. The Authority's 2026 fee table also prices the company extract at NIS 12 "online / API", but its service pages describe only the online order. For directors, shareholders, and enriched fields in one call, use our Company Data API.
Usually not from the register. A private company's annual report is an update of its details, not its accounts, and a balance sheet is attached only in the cases section 175(a) of the Companies Law sets out, such as when the articles require one. Companies under the Israel Securities Authority's supervision, including public companies, publish prospectuses, periodic reports, and immediate reports through its MAGNA system, which has a public distribution site.
A private, public, or foreign company that has not filed its annual report where it must, or has not paid its annual fee or the fee debts of the past seven years, can be registered as a violating company (חברה מפרה) after a warning and 30 days to fix it. The note shows in the free lookup and in the extract. While it stands, the Registrar will not register charges on the company's assets, a change of name or purpose, or a merger, and for violations from 2009 on, the company and anyone holding 50% or more of it cannot register a new company.
The extract (נסח חברה, NIS 12) is a summary from the Authority's database: in Hebrew, the basic details, the date of the last annual report, the capital, the shareholders, the directors, and the charges; in English, basic data only. The corporation file (תיק חברה, NIS 39) holds the documents themselves, everything filed since registration, such as the certificate of incorporation and the articles, scanned and electronically signed so that printed copies are admissible in court.
Companies must report changes to their capital or shareholders, their board, and their address within 14 days, and the open data file is refreshed daily. The Authority still warns that the free information may be incomplete, inaccurate, or out of date, and a paid extract is current only to the moment you paid for it, so a fresh one costs another NIS 12.
The Registrar of Companies, part of the Israeli Corporations Authority in the Ministry of Justice. The Authority was established in 2007, following Government Decision 4731 of March 2006, and also holds the registers of partnerships, pledges, associations and public benefit companies, charitable trusts, political parties, and business names.
